Luxembourg Brass Ensemble

The “Luxembourg Brass Ensemble” is the oldest brass ensemble in Luxembourg. Founded in 1979 by five young musicians from the Conservatory of Music of the City of Luxembourg, the ensemble began its first concerts under the name of “Musica Aeterna” as a brass quintet. In 1981 the formation was extended (10 brass + percussion) with the aim of enriching the repertoire (trio -> 10-piece brass ensemble) and making the ensemble’s public performances even more attractive.
This formula has been so successful that many Luxembourg composers (amongst others Camille Kerger, Jeannot Heinen, Johny Fritz, Marcel Wengler, Walter Civitareale, Marco Pütz, Claude Lenners) wrote contemporary music for the ensemble. Together with virtuoso transcriptions of masterpieces from the 16th century to the present day, the repertoire of the Luxembourg Brass ensemble has thus been enriched over the years by original compositions from Luxembourg composers.
The desire to change its musical style by joining other groups (jazz group, vocal ensemble, various soloists, and chamber music formations) has always been an important concern for the members of the brass ensemble.
In 1990 “Musica Aeterna” changed its name to become the “Luxembourg Brass Ensemble”.
The ensemble performs regularly on the occasion of the many cultural and musical events in Luxembourg and the greater region…and enchants its audience on every occasion.
A formation with an ample and brilliant sound beside extraordinary dynamic means, the “Luxembourg Brass Ensemble” has decided to pay tribute to the original music for brass instruments by producing the CD “Brass.lu” which brings together a selection of the best works for brass quintet.
The “Luxembourg Brass Ensemble” is particularly proud to present on the CD program two works by internationally renowned Luxembourg composers: Walter Civitareale (Reminiscences of Russia) and Marco Pütz (4 Bagatellen).

The Luxembourg Brass ensemble consist today of the following musicians:
Trumpets: Pierre Kremer, Roman Zaremba, Monique Bernotte, Guy Kleren,
Horn: Leo Halsdorf
Trombones: Marc Meyers, Serguei Khmielovskei, Jean-Marie Grimler, Vincent Debès
Tubaö Patrick Krysatis

Quintette de Cuivres de Lorraine

The « Quintette de Cuivres de Lorraine » was founded in 1993 by five professional musiciens from Luxembourg and the Lorraine region of France. This is one of the few brass quintets composed of two trumpets and three trombones, including a bass trombone. This particular formation offers an homogenous sonority and brilliant sound distinctive of such XVIth century composers as Holborne and Speer. The ensemble performs regularly at various culturel and musical events in, among others, France, Luxembourg and Germany, to the delight of their audience.

The repertoire of the quintet is as large as it is varied. Original works ranging from the XVIth century to the present are juxtaposed with virtuose arrangements of great masterpieces. The unique pallette of sound of this group can be greatly enhanced in combination with organ, choir and other ensembles both traditional and contemporary. The members of this ensemble express their enthusiasm for this divers repertoire with a joyful integrity.

Luxembourg Little Big Band

Created in early 2011, this exciting ensemble is characterized as a homogeneous group, which brings together renowned musicians from the Luxembourg jazz scene. The program of this formation includes, among others, a selection of great jazz standards by established composers, a.o. Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Michel Legrand, Sammy Nestico or Cole Porter, as well as original works by the “Luxembourg Little Big Band”.
The LLBB has presented in recent years a multitude of projects such as “Birth of the cool” (the music of Miles Davis, Gerry Mulligan and Gilles Evans), “Tribute to the genius” (the music of Ray Charles), “Mandalay » (compositions by multi-instrumentalist Gast Gnad) or « All that swing » (great hits by Glenn Miller, Count Basie and Duke Ellington)

All the works presented up to now have been created or arranged by LLBB musicians under the label “Jazz made in Luxembourg”. The “Luxembourg Little Big Band” also wishes with these projects to support young jazz artists from the Greater Region.
The soloists of the ensemble bring to life the particular style of the famous jazz performers who have been nourished by various influences: the virtuosity and innovations of classical and modern jazz.

The LLBB is also an ensemble that has always provided, beyond musical creation and defined cultural objectives, support for organizations that are involved in social works.

LLBB concerts are enhanced by the Indonesian jazz singer, Grace Gnad-Agustin, who – with her deep and warm voice, high-pitched and powerful – has excelled for several years in a wide variety of musical styles: gospel, blues or jazz.
